First day of the first full month since I implemented the new nav. I wonder if it's working... [read more...]

Happy New Year!

I went with Alex to Chinatown today, to see the parades and all. Today is Chinese New Year (the year of the Ram), and we spent most of the day taking pictures of crowds, firecrackers and dragons. It's late, and I don't think I can post all the pics just [read more...]

For Fuck's Sake

I work with computers. So you'd think, you'd think I'm a smart guy. After being up all night last night, you'd think I'd just turn off the damn monitor and head to sleep. But what happens? I notice that the "February" button isn't working on the nav. I open up [read more...]

Year of the Ram

Early yesterday morning, Alex and I headed out to Chinatown for the Chinese New Year parade. We brought our cameras with us, and pretty much spent the whole afternoon shooting the parade and the dragons. For some reason, the Raeleans were at the parade. Alex and I talked to them [read more...]

Here There Be Dragons

It's customary, on each New Year's day, for the dragons to go to every shop in Chinatown to offer blessings. Now, I'm not all that familiar with the specifics, as this has been my first official Chinese New Year in Chicago. Noise is used to "scare off" evil spirits, [read more...]

Chinatown At Night

After following around many a dragon, Alex and I decided to call it quits and get some food. Several of the places we tried were filled to capacity, so we ended up at a small joint in New Chinatown. The service was horrible, the entire waitstaff seemed stressed out of [read more...]

Late Night Phone Call

Talking to Grumpy and a3dmofo on the phone. We're all in various states of drunkenness. I can't tell if this is a new level of nerdiness or not. But it's pretty damn fun. :) [read more...]

Lunch With Matt

Matt and I hung out today for the first time in a long time. I feel awful for being such a terrible friend - it's literally been months since I've called or stopped by. But we got to see each other today, and it was fun (albeit quick). For our [read more...]

Whew!

Late night last night, getting those Chinatown images up. At work, I discovered that the big Flash movies were loading first, causing some of the image loading to hang. I've reworked the Flash files so that they'll only load on demand. This should solve that image problem. Late night tonight [read more...]

Speaking of Leftovers...

Going to have a late dinner now. Calling it an early night, partly because I only have one beer (which I'm finishing as I type.. finished!). But mainly because I agreed to go in early tomorrow with Justin. He's swinging by here at 7:15 (agh! What was I thinking?) and [read more...]

6:15 AM

Wake up. Wonder why everything looks foggy and why the air hurts to breathe. Realizes what time it is. Also realizes why most people don't get up this early: it's because the air hurts to breathe at this hour. Shower. Mumble. [read more...]

1:28 AM

I start updating the blog. I realize I drank my last beer last night. I realize I have to be up early, and arrive at work by 7:30 AM. I look to my cat for sympathy, but she just yawns and starts cleaning herself. Lousy, ungrateful cat. I turn off [read more...]

FAN-TASTIC!

I got home to find Michael still in my apartment, setting up a fan for the living room. Rock! To top it off, he installed a dimmer switch. Woohoo! Though he couldn't determine a good reason for the coldness in the apartment, he felt that fans (in the living [read more...]

So Sleepy...

It's about 8:30 PM. I've been falling asleep at the computer here, for the past 30 minutes. I'm on beer #2, and I'd like to get a game or two of UT in before I pass out. We had a good meeting day today, and I feel like we all [read more...]

Guilty Secret #7

About a week ago, as I was trying to get to bed early... I stopped in front of the poems that I taped up on the walls. I spent a good 10 minutes looking over old writing and reading things out loud. Partly to remember what I wrote, but partly [read more...]

Jesus' Son

I've been meaning to put a few quotations from Jesus' Son, a collection of short stories by Denis Johnson. There was a movie made a few years back - I saw it maybe a year or two ago, but fell asleep after about 30 minutes. I'm always wary of movie [read more...]

From "Work"

by Denis Johnson The Vine was like a railroad club car that had somehow run itself off the tracks into a swamp of time where it awaited the blows of the wrecking ball. And the blows really were coming. Because of Urban Renewal, they were tearing up and throwing away [read more...]

The Carpool

A few days back, Justin and I were going to carpool in to work - partly because we knew it would be a late night, and partly because we wanted to get in early to work. I missed a bunch of his calls, and he ended up leaving a few [read more...]

Friendship Litmus Test

Something happened today that jogged my memory. I recalled a thought that I had, a while back... that you define your friends based on trust: specifically, the ingestion of certain foodstuffs. Imagine a complete stranger, walking up to you on the street. They had you a styrofoam cup filled with [read more...]

The Nerdiness Knows No Boundaries

Sometime early in the week, Grumpy and TS7 changed names and tried playing UT (pretending to be the other). Tonight, everyone changed names and became a variation of Thrillho, which was pretty damn fun. I had no idea who was who, and I still don't know. So nerdy... it hurts. [read more...]

Dull Day

My confession here is that I still don't know HTML all that well. We had a sort of emergency thing this morning, where a radio station's client needed to have their pages fixed quickly - and threatened to withdraw the rest of their business for the year. I worked a [read more...]

Perpetual Sleepiness

Today, I was living in a constant state of yawning. I woke up early, and got a few errands done. I hate errands, no doubt due in part to this "time" issue of mine. But where I'm trying to rush around and get things done... I come home and just [read more...]

Momentary Shame While Renting Movies

So yesterday morning, I'm out and about. I've run to Stanley's to pick up all my veggies for the week, and stop in to get some DVD's at a nearby blockbuster. I dig around some, and decide that one of the movies I want to see is Spy Kids. Now [read more...]

Happy Non-Leap Year!

Got things worked out - the nav is no longer under the impression that 2003 is a leap year. Also, it seems like an errant button (in the 31st day slot) was active, when it shouldn't have been. Also fixed. I threw in a "current day" signifier, along with a [read more...]

Best Quotation From the Movie "Signs"

"Morgan, this crop stuff is just about a bunch of nerds who never had a girlfriend their lives. They're like thirty now. They make up secret codes and analyze Greek mythology and make secret societies where other guys who never had girlfriends can join in. They do stupid crap [read more...]

Some Things I Realized While Watching "Signs"

The Shape of Life

So the Simpsons are over, and I'm flipping around a bit. I come across a PBS Documentary that starts off with a camera tracking a lion running at top speed, along with a deep voiceover that says: In the struggle for survival, Nature only rewards the victor. Is it wrong [read more...]

Psssssttt.... Here's A Note, Pass It On

Earlier today, I let Justin know that I was going to be having dinner with Kent and some of his friends. When he found out, Justin was a bit jealous (as he hasn't seen Kent in a while). Justin made me take a picture so that I could show it [read more...]

So Full... So Very Full...

Went to Nola's again. The last time I was here, I was also with Kent. But tonight, I met two other friends of his: Mike and Tanya. They were both quite cool folks - it took us a little while to get comfortable (a lot of job/career/what-do-you-do talk at the [read more...]
