Come on in... don't mind the mess
Today, I passed along some .fla files to a coworker in New York. We've got a new webmaster named Keith working on the HOT97 site. He's got an impressive body of Flash work under his belt, and they're planning on doing an apartment giveaway, a la the UltraCrib giveaway that Chicago's Q101 did, this past year.
While Keith is fully able to create a new version from scratch, I sent along my files so he could at least see how we structured the Q101 event. It's a little unnerving, sharing files, particularly with another person who knows their way around the program. Technical structure aside, things like naming conventions and organization come to light. It's a lot like letting someone into your apartment, but you may not necessarily have every room super clean. Some rooms are spotless, others... well, you were just in a rush that day, and never really got around to picking things up.
We're bringing in stronger and stronger talent into our little interactive world. I guess if there's one thing I've learned from all my time around online Flash forums, it's this: everyone's always raising the bar. Surrounding yourself with talented, sharp, creative folk only helps you to improve your own game.
This is gonna be fun.
