Meeting Juliet

I walked over to Ukranian Village, and stopped off at the local liquor store (Sahara?) to pick up a six pack. Lo and behold, what do I see but one of the You Are Beautiful stickers.

When I arrived, Stu and Kent and Dave were all hanging out in the kitchen. I popped open a beer, and we all hung out chatting for a good while. I met Juliet for the first time, and she was incredibly friendly and all that Stu promised, based on his descriptions. She was drinking whiskey and so of course I liked her right from the start.

Eventually, as the night wore on, we got to a point where Stu was showing us photographs from their wedding in Maui. I gotta tell you… there were so many images that just blew me away. So much great shit… I can’t even begin to explain. There’s one image in particular, where he captured a rainbow in the distance… but positioned a friend to stand so that it looked like the rainbow was shooting out of his mouth. Great stuff.

This image (above) is me breaking out the camera while we were huddled around the computer.

This is a sticker right above Stu’s work area. I like it a great deal, although I wasn’t able to get it colored correctly.

Everyone – meet Juliet. At the end of the night, I showed her around the blog a bit, and we all went through Kent and Christine’s wedding day.

As we left, I got this incredibly flattering offer from Stu about helping him shoot weddings on the weekends. He mentioned wanting to get someone to help him shoot these gigs, and I definitely have interest in doing so. It’s less about the money and more about learning how to shoot better pictures (I’ve had this camera for a long while now, and I still don’t feel like I have a true command of it). I know that Alex worked with Stu on wedding projects while he was in town… and I feel like Alex was also someone who knew his photography.

Honestly, I’m delighted that Stu even mentioned this to me. Based on some of the shots we looked at (from Kent and Christine’s wedding), Stu seemed to feel that I would be able to help him with future weddings. I’m very excited by this prospect, even though it would mean losing Saturdays… I’m confident I’d be able to learn a ton just taking pictures alongside him.

Woohoo!
