Jam Session, 2

Today after work, a bunch of us headed over to Matt’s again for another jam session. This time, I ended up bringing along my violin and joined in on a few impromptu songs. Which was interesting.
I’m still a stickler for structure, having been raised on sheet music, orchestras and quartets. Noodling isn’t really my thing. Comparing it to writing, I would never ever get up on stage and try to just freestyle rap. I’d much prefer sitting down and sketching out a sonnet, and piece things together slowly, meticulously. That’s how I work best, it seems.
But all told, tonight was fun (although I feel like everyone is itching to move towards some more structured sessions). Cracking open my violin for the first time in months, I find the bow to be in some horrible shape.

Justin, working the bass foundation.

Matt, switching things up and taking on the drums.

Chris takes a break from percussion, and hits the keys. Dave joins us this time, and ends up doing a bit of everything (keys, drums, guitar, bass).

Open cases.

Rey, practicing for a track he’s going to lay down.

Dave and Justin, discussing some Velvet Underground songs.
