I got an email back from the guy who runs the Myopic Poetry Series. Turns out they do, indeed, accept submissions from anyone at all. So I'm planning on digging through some poems and sending them off, in the hopes of garnering a spot in the coming months. Woot!... (read more)
Someone got a hankering for Taco Bell, and we (me, Ben and Chris) ended up walking downtown to get some tacos and burritos. Taco Bell is every bit as good (and as nasty) as I remember it. There's definitely something about biting into Grade F beef that makes it seem... (read more)

by Louise Glück Suddenly, after you die, those friends who never agreed about anything agree about your character. They're like a houseful of singers rehearsing the same score: you were just, you were kind, you lived a fortunate life. No harmony. No counterpoint. Except they're not performers; real tears are... I stopped off at a few places. I went in to Myopic Books to ask whether the Wicker Park Chess Club is currently meeting. So far, due to the reconstruction, they haven't reconvened. But I've been asking. Hmm. There's a Poetry Series there. I wonder if I should try to... (read more)
On my way out, I decided to stop in at Dunphy's for a drink. I had designs on seeing Louise Glück (our current poet laureate) read tonight at the Poetry Center with Gretchen, but planned the whole thing poorly. I had assumed we could just show up and buy tickets,... (read more)
For those that saw my entry yesterday about the Palahniuk reading... I've got a few links for you. Keep in mind that folks were (purportedly) passing out during the reading. Click at your own discretion (although the audio link is probably NSFW). Read the story here. Listen to the story... (read more)
I started corresponding again with my friend Dipti (someone I have known since middle school, and became good friends with in college). She's an excellent photographer, and has recently started to do more web-based work for the Knoxville News Sentinel. Check out a piece she did called Digging for... (read more)
What cracks me up about this isn't the fact that the sign says "modernization." It's the fact that, on walking out of the elevator, Ben and I both saw this sign, looked at each other and laughed, as I took my camera out. We both knew that this needed... (read more)

This morning, I was filled with stress. There were a lot of things in the air, and took upon myself every unknown as though it were my own personal weight to carry. Which was ridiculous. Any job has its stressful moments, but for the most part I bring a lot... (read more)

I was supposed to meet Chelsea for a show at 10:00 PM. I didn't get home until maybe quarter till. She ended up deciding not to go, and I feel somewhat at fault for this. She claims there were other reasons, but I still feel bad for being so late.... (read more)
Chuck Palahniuk lives and works in Portland, Oregon. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon. "Project Mayhem" is a portion of his first novel, Fight Club, to be published by W. W. Norton this summer. "Maybe two years ago, I went camping with some friends and got into... (read more)

September 21, 2004
My friend Ann died last night. At various points in the day, I've been in disbelief, in shock. I've gotten angry. I've gotten sad. I've been hating myself. I've been hating God. For most of the day, I've been holding back. I've been at work, or around friends, and have... (read more)

Michael invited everyone over to his place for some drinks and some food. This was sort of a "tenant" party, as everyone invited was a tenant of Ted's (my landlord). Michael does a lot of the maintenance work for all of Ted's properties, and is the general fix-it guy.... (read more)
