Clubfoot, Revisited
I woke up around 8-ish, and gave Katie a ring. She’s staying with a friend in the suburbs, but they were planning on being in the city tonight. We play tag a bit, and decide on meeting up at Clubfoot again.
I get over there around 10 PM, and just hang out a while, waiting. I’m not really a social butterfly so I spend most of my time hanging out by the pool table just watching the games take place. I don’t really know anyone there, and basically end up becoming a wallflower/spectator.
I take that back – I did recognize Jenn, who I met a few months back. I stopped over to say hi briefly, although I was a bit shy about it.
Some time later, Katie shows up with her friend Kris. The three of us chat for the rest of the night, and we have some pretty good conversations (despite having to yell a bit over the music). She’s currently in school, and working at a hospital – I got to hear a lot of interesting work-related stories, and ended up learning a lot about the West Nile Virus (and how being a surgeon doesn’t necessarily mean that you have strong people skills).
I got the lowdown on Katie’s job search, and the wave of interviews she’s been through these past couple of days. Hopefully, something will turn up for her here soon. It’d be great if she could move back to Chicago. There’s the slight chance she might be back in a week to interview with the Morning show at Q101. We’ll see.
After midnight, both Kris and Katie are pretty beat. Kris’ place is about an hour outside of Chicago, so they decide to call it a night. We make our way outside and, because it’s so much quieter… we end up talking for like another 20 minutes or so. We say our goodbyes, and Katie and I promise to keep in touch better than we have.
I’m happy I got to meet Kris (who’s awesome), and I’m delighted to be able to see Katie again. The two of them are a blast together, and they both talk about how they’re techincally “opposites” from one another. Fun stuff tonight. I hope Katie gets to come back next week so we can hang out again.
