Movable Type, I curse you for your outrageous rebuild times. We're talking 30 minutes a pop here, minimum. Each freaking time. Gaaaaah.... (read more)

To celebrate our one-year anniversary, Liz and I got all fancied up and went out to a place called Geja's. It's a fondue place, which is something she's been wanting to try for a while. Walking down to the entrance. Quick peek around the interior. A lot of my shots... (read more)
The new blog is close. So close. I can almost launch it, if not for the fact that I can't get the 4%^&@$%&#% thing to rebuild. Argh. I've been testing things out on a small number of entries (I uploaded all of 2007), and was able to "rebuild" the site,... (read more)

I've been inattentive here of late, but I assure you it's for a good reason. Most of my time so far has been spent (some good, much of it frustratingly) converting my blog over to MoveableType. I'm not sure yet if I can get it up and running mid-week, but... (read more)

Find out more about some coffee-making device called "The Clover." There's one in Chicago, at an Intelligentsia store. This, apparently, is something that must be documented.... (read more)

Hung out at Liz's apartment most of the day. For dinner, we met up with Justin, Dave, Alex and Linda (and Johanna), Rob and Gretchen, along with Jude and a few of his friends. I'm not sure why, but I didn't end up taking any photos. I think I'm severely... (read more)

More patterns, more finding and replacing. I know talking about this is nerdy, but I'm going to one-up myself here: video! The script that's running is the one Justin wrote for me (it copies the first instance of DATE and re-inserts it before any subsequent entries). I did a bit... (read more)
It's crappy titles/ploys like this that say to me: newspapers aren't long for this world. Looking at it again, this just seems really sad to me. Spotted this at the Hickory Creek Metra stop. Took an early train down to Mokena this morning, to go pick up my car.... (read more)

Spent most of today mucking with text patterns, trying to convert my home-rolled files over to the MovableType format. Right now, I'm using BBEdit and Text Factory to run a series of GREP patterns, doing some find and replaces. After that, I'm using an Applescript that Justin wrote for... (read more)

It should be noted that I'm not someone who totally hates Starbucks and is simply looking for a chance to rail on them. I like Starbucks. And while I typically get my coffee from local shops, I'll often go in to Starbucks if I'm in the mood for something sweeter,... (read more)
Over the weekend, Sandra sent out an email to all of us regarding Starbucks' latest promotion: the Starbucks t-shirt. Billed as part of their "Customization Promotion," this promotion features Mychael Knight (of Project Runway fame) at the forefront. Knight has created a variety of designs, which users can then... One of the great things about YouTube is its ability to allow people to post "responses" to other videos. Most, I think, are just so much inane chatter - additional detritus to clog the already clogged video airways, as it were. Sometimes, it results in people posting a video response... (read more)

Well, car trouble continues. Liz borrowed my car today to drive down to Frankfort. However, on the way there - the thing just up and gave out. She was driving along and the gas wouldn't do anything, and she had to pull over to the right shoulder. On turning the... (read more)

After work today, Liz and I headed over to Smoke Daddy's for some burgers. I was mucking around with my camera while she went to the little girls' room. Liz's friend Royal was also here, and it turns out they both knew a few of the band members playing... (read more)
Liz and I dug out my car this evening, which had been sitting under a good pile of snow for the past few days. She and I are both very stubborn, and we both tend to believe in the rightness of our own points of view. This, I've learned, tends... (read more)

Tonight, I showed up for my Sleep Study with Northwestern. Oddly, they scheduled me to appear at the nearby Raddison hotel. Turns out, they have an entire floor of the hotel dedicated to sleep studies (multiple rooms, no less). Crazy. In the waiting area, I met a few other... (read more)

I haven't mentioned this yet, but tomorrow... I'm off to do a sleep study, to see if I've got sleep apnea (that thing where you stop breathing in the middle of the night). I snore pretty badly, but I've never been sure whether or not I'm fully asleep at night,... (read more)
I went over to Liz's for a nice dinner at home. Walking in, the candles were set and the lights were low. Her place has a lot of spots for neat candle placement. It definitely changes the feel of her apartment. Ah, dinner! Cornish hen that Liz prepared, along... (read more)

My friend Melissa (aka Mellzah) is a Reno 911! fan. Fanatic, really. She's so into the program, she's entered into a contest trying to vie for a walk-on role. She's entered the "Deputy for a Day" contest, and is trying to get folks to vote for her profile. Wanting to... (read more)
Ever since Allison's arrival to the Windy City, she's been looking forward to a proper Chicago winter. Specifically, playing in the snow that accompanies a proper Chicago winter. Met up with Liz and Steph (and Marcus) for a Guild Complex reading tonight, at the California Clipper. She's read here before, but tonight's reading was for the Guild's annual awards ceremony, for fiction and non-fiction. A dark shot of the table. The room was fairly intimate, so I... (read more)
