Poker Night at Home

When Kent first arrived, there was talk about getting some folks together for a possible poker game. I asked around, and Ben and Chris were both up for some Holdem… and they all came over to my place for a night of cards.
We started the night off right with pizza from Santullo’s. And hey, this was news to me – they deliver now! I was hoping ot order from Big Cheese, a place that Chris mentioned favorably, and a place that also offers up a wheat crust (ergo, a bit more south beach friendly).
Sad to say, it seems that Big Cheese is closed down at the moment. Or… well, not that sad, actually, since I got to eat Santullo’s instead.
It was fun playing poker with a small group. Everyone at the table was a pretty seasoned player, and we all seemed to be on the same level as far as experience/skill went. Lots of chips got traded back and forth, and after an hour plus… our respective stacks all looked like they did when we started.
I was riding some kind of lucky streak like you wouldn’t believe. I went all-in several times, with the low stack, and remarkably got saved at the river. Not once, but like four or five times. Tripling up saves.
I finally got knocked out by Kent, after going all-in early in a hand. There were three of us left, and I got dealt pocket sevens. After Kent called, he revealed his pocket eights. Doh.
Ben and Kent went head to head for a while, and eventually Ben ended up getting the chip lead, and then beat out Kent for the game. All told, the four of us played for like 3 hours, which doesn’t seem that long when you say it… but felt pretty long last night. I guess that’s a testament to how well we all played.
Well, hm. I guess it could also be a testament to how we started with too many chips… or how our blind structure was ill-conceived. But… I prefer to think that it was a testament to how well we all played.
Added bonus – tonight, Liz threw in one of the many apple pies she made (they’ve been in the freezer). It’s been a while since I first had a taste of the pies, but it was as delicious as I remembered. South beach what?
