Bottled Water Trucks in Winter: Do the Bottles Freeze?

This is Byron. We met on the way up the elevator this morning. He was dropping off our monthly bottled water supply, and I let him in through the hallway door, which had a more direct route to the kitchen area.
As we were walking together, a question sort of formed in my head. I wondered, during the wintertime… did the water ever just freeze up, due to the cold? Presumably all the water was on a large truck for transport. But what happened in the cold months?
Was the truck heated? Would that even make sense? Would a particularly chilly day end up turning these large containers of water into gigantic ice cubes?
According to Byron, the trucks are equipped with a mechanism that makes the entire storage area “vibrate.” When the vehicle is stationary in wintertime, this device is switched on when it’s parked. As a result, the water never really “settles” and moves around enough to keep it from freezing up.
Who knew? This was a great start to the morning. Not only did I have a fun conversation, I also learned a little something new.
