Hoshi Saga 3: Deceptively Simple, Rewarding Flash Game

By the same creator who created the fantastic Cursor*10 game, Yoshio Ishii recently released a third game in his Hoshi Saga series.

In Hoshi Saga 3, as in all the other versions, the objective itself is deceptively simple: find the star. It's not so much an overall game is it is a series of small games, each fairly simplistic in its mechanics.

What I love most about this approach is that the instructions for each mini game dont' exist. It's a matter of exploration and discovery, and each time you figure it out... your brain gets this small, satisfying burst of pleasure. It's an addictive, compelling game, but quietly so.

Of note: Ishii is also the guy who created Panda Pang and Plupon.

Playing through this series of mini-games was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've had in a long while. This is a guy or gal that absolutely understands the fundamentals of game design; it incorporates all of the "good gaming" hallmarks discussed in A Theory of Fun. There is a lot to be learned here.. thanks for the link!

This would be a good addition to the EI Delicious bookmark collection..
