Videos from My Pecha Kucha Talk + A Guide to Making a Pecha Kucha Presentation

Over the past weeks, I've been putting together some notes and ideas as a result of my Pecha Kucha talk. I found that I really enjoyed the creation process, and ended up having a lot of thoughts as to all the ins and outs of what makes up a Pecha Kucha presentation.

When I first was doing my prep, I found a lot of videos on YouTube of other talks. But the advice and behind the scenes stuff was largely absent, or not detailed enough for me. I put together a guide of the process I took, including things that I tried out along the way.

You can view it here: Guide to Making a Pecha Kucha Presentation.

It's got a lot of different sections, ranging from slide design to tips on speaking and practicing. I've also included the slides and .psd files I used for my talk, in case anyone wanted to see them up close.

For me, this guide was the kind of thing I was looking for when I first set out to start my prep. And I'm offering it up in the hopes that others may find it helpful or at the very least, a point of reference.

Finally, if you want to check out the talk in full, visit the video page, which contains two versions. The first is from a camera set up near the back of the bar; the second is a movie I made, combining the audio from the evening with just the slides themselves.

Huge thanks to Peter Exley and Thorsten Bösch, the Pecha Kucha Chicago event organizers, for providing me with a few photos from the evening... as well as video of my talk. And, pretty much for volunteering a ton of their own time to make Pecha Kucha happen in Chicago.

If you're preparing a Pecha Kucha talk, I hope this guide helps. If you're considering participating in Pecha Kucha... I highly recommend that you do it. So many of the people I know are into different things, and have so many different passions. I know that there are a ton of great presentations out there, just waiting to happen. I can't say enough good things - and highly encourage you to give Pecha Kucha a try. I guarantee you'll have a blast. I know I did.
