Jim's Birthday!

My good friend from college, Jim, came into town today to celebrate his birthday. I hadn't done a good job organizing things, and a few folks were out of town this weekend. It ended up just being me and Jim, which was actually great since I can't recall the last time the two of us just hung out.

I got comp tickets to Q101's Block Party, a two-day concert event going on this weekend. Tonight's lineup was Ben Kweller, Flaming Lips and Violent Femmes. Here's a quick shot of the crowd, as we arrived. The day was pretty crappy and threatened rain, but luckily things remained fairly dry.

Right before this, we ran into Liz and Steph (and Mandy, I think). I felt bad that we didn't stop to talk, but I wanted to try to make our way over to the show. I owe the girls a call, since I've got a copy of Spirited Away with their names on it.

Balloon!

The Flaming Lips. I had a hard time getting a decent shot of them.

Anyone ever see "The Prisoner?"

Yeah, me neither. I just know the reference.

More Flaming Lips.

Finally! A decent one. :)

Wow. I really wonder what kind of fun was had last night. This person was dead asleep right smack in the middle of the crowd. Pretty impressive.

A shot of Jim, adjusting the spectacles. The whole night, we kept talking back and forth during the concert - and it really felt like stepping back a few years. We chatted about the path our lives have taken, movies, what keeps us passionate and motivated. Marriage, kids, you name it.

I was getting pretty sloppy drunk at this point. No dinner, and three beers into the evening. Whooo-hooo!

Even when I'm not working, I'm in work mode. I saw this shot and thought "Gee, I bet they'd like that to use on their web page."

God help me.

A few colorful folks who, I'm guessing, were part of the show earlier.

Some other nice folks who didn't mind my picture-taking.

A view of the skyline from where Jim's car was parked. After this, we headed back to my place, got some beer, and played GameCube for an hour or so.

Beer and video games. It's like ten years went by, and nothing's changed. :)
