Renegade Craft Fair

Kent and Christine are in town, participating in the Renegade Craft Fair. It's running all weekend, so if you're near Wicker Park, stop on by and check out their wares.

About 50 feet into the park, I run into Dave. Joining forces, we then moved through the rest of the fair on the lookout for Kent and Christine.

Some really great posters, by The Bird Machine.

An interesting booth: they took old book covers and made new notebooks out of them.

I was finishing a small coffee, and wandered away to find a trashcan. Nearby, I find this.

I really should have grabbed it, and submitted it to Found. There's so much loss with this, as it seemed to be part of someone's keychain. Did this break off accidentally? Did he tear it off on purpose? So much left unanswered.

Two Space

Found 'em!

Kent and Christine have two different wares at their booth. Kent is selling his jewelry and Christine, her clothing. Kent's got mostly rings and necklaces; Christine has t-shirts and "wrap" skirts.

Hanging out at their booth was fun. I grabbed a seat in back (in the shade), and was able to people watch a good deal. I stayed here a while, just observing and watching the buyer/seller interaction. Also spotted this kid building some sort of sculpture with his grandmother.

The happy couple. When I left them, Christine was selling like nobody's business. They had a pretty consistent flow of people in and perusing. But a lot of the hustle and bustle tended to be around Christine's skirts.

I ran into Mykal, Justin's neighbor, who ended up buying one of Kent's rings. She also asked about the blog, and I offered to take her picture so she could be on here.

Hi Mykal!

Alli's Oddities

I didn't end up taking pictures of all the booths, but a few did catch my eye. Like this one, for instance: Alli's Oddities.

Damned Dollies

These dolls were pretty cool, but what caught my eye were the t-shirt designs. Check out Damned Dollies.

Graffiti: Walking Home

Found this inside a phone booth.

The graffiti caught my eye, but the door itself made me take the picture.

Cookout, Michael's

Michael invited everyone over to his place for some drinks and some food. This was sort of a "tenant" party, as everyone invited was a tenant of Ted's (my landlord). Michael does a lot of the maintenance work for all of Ted's properties, and is the general fix-it guy.

I was a bit nervous, as I didn't really know anyone (outside of Micahel). But once I showed up I made it a point to introduce myself and remember people's names. I actively tried to remember everyone's names, and really tried to say hello to everyone I saw.

On the whole, this was an incredibly extroverted night for me. I'm sort of proud of myself for this, as I just plopped down next to strangers and inserted myself into conversations.

I saw Steph and Mandy briefly, early on in the night. A bit later on Chelsea stopped in. I was able to hang out with them for a bit, but they ended up taking off after a while.

I met this girl named Heather, who apparently is a Second (or Third?) mate for some sort of cruiseliner. She works four months on, travelling, then three months off. I met Andy (who was studying marketing and copywriting), along with his girlfriend Cara (who's looking to be a photography editor for a magazine. I met Alison (I think that's right, maybe it's Alicia), who's pursuing a Ph.D. in Art History, and teaches. She once ran an art publication, and raved about how good a writer Michael was.

I also met someone... crap! Her name was Brenda maybe? Her boyfriend's name is Eric, and he works at the Matchbox. She and I hit it off really well, and got into some cool conversations about cigarettes, writing (turns out she studied creative writing for a bit as well), literature, and teaching. Good stuff.

Check out the demolition wall. Michael says that the neighbor kids like to smash up their toy cars, and display them here on this wall. Sort of like a graveyard, sort of like some enormous accident scene, maybe post-earthquake.

Michael's apartment has got to be, hands down, one of the coolest apartments I've ever been in. There's so much great stuff all over the place. I didn't end up taking any pictures, but at some point I'd love to photograph the interior. So much great stuff, covering every surface!

Backyard, circ 10:00 PM.

Early Night

I ended up calling it an early night tonight. I've been slightly under the weather, and decided to take it easy.

Joey was in town though, and I feel bad for missing out on the festivities. There was talk of them renting a schoolbus again, and tearing up the town. I wonder how all that went. :)
