I've been listening to a few songs over and over lately. It should be no surprise to many of you that I tend to get obsessive about tracks, and if I find one I like... I'll play it literally nonstop, into the ground. Of late, three songs that have been... (read more)

I put a lot of things on this blog, but not everything. One of the bigger bits of news that I've kept off of here is the fact that Justin, after some 6+ years, is going to be leaving Emmis Interactive. This is not an easy decision for him to... (read more)

I'm not sure what to think of this promotion. Much like R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet," this is either one of the most ill-conceived projects... or a brilliant one. It's difficult to tell. Reading over some of the copy on the page, and listening to Vanilla Ice talk... (read more)

I'm betting you're the same guy who takes a crap in there, and then decides not to flush. For god's sake man, was it really THAT urgent? I'd say more, but I think it's been summed up pretty well already. And yes, there is a Previously.... (read more)

I never imagined I'd be seeing the end of Filter. It's a great spot, and it's been a staple of Wicker Park for coming on 5 years now. But, it turns out the onwer of the building has decided to lease the space to Bank of America instead. Which... (read more)

Check out the upcoming mini-golf course from Material Exchange and Experimental Station. It's called The First Annual Putt-Putt Green Design Competition, and course designers have to use reclaimed materials, as well as provide a future use for the course... once the putt-putt is over. Dave just recently got a video made of one of his songs, Small Drifts, from his recent album The Crawl. Dave's a friend of mine, and I'm a huge fan of his work. If you haven't yet heard his stuff, check out his MySpace page or, better yet, his personal... (read more)
Today at work, Ben and I were looking over some specs we drew up for an upcoming internal blog app tool. The topic of RSS feeds came up, and we both realized that... while we were familiar with the concept, neither of us really used feeds in any way.... (read more)

I just got Jim and Sally's birthday gift a day or so ago in the mail. Not one, but two great books about comics. I've heard a great deal about Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics," and even recall seeing it listed on a few college courses. I'm just a little... (read more)

Last week, I saw a thread on Twelvestone about Essential Mac Software. A few programs I was familiar with, a few I had heard about, tangentially. One app that stood out was Quicksilver. I remember a few folks talking about this before, and speaking very highly of it. Off... (read more)

I'm pretty tardy with this news but... better late than never. After a bit of a hiatus, Ben has brought back his mp3 blog (CIGIT 2.0). More than once, Ben has been someone who passes me an mp3 that gets stuck in my brain... and I end up looping... (read more)

I haven't gotten terribly far with this game, but it's pretty fantastic so far. Remarkably intuitive, and I catch myself wanting to pull back from "playing" the game to studying it for the way in which it illicits user interaction. At times spooky and a little unsettling, this game... (read more)

Spent today working on building out a site for Gretchen and Genie. It's called Literago, and is a bit of an amalgam of the words "Literate Chicago." The idea for the site is one that combines multiple threads: it's a calendar of literary events, an ongoing collection of essays about... (read more)

I was to meet Liz tonight for dinner at her place. Though I'm having my birtday party on Sunday the 11th - my actual birthday is today. There wasn't anything official done at work, as we've grown to a point where we do multiple birthdays once a month (but for... (read more)

Spent some time tonight mucking more with Movable Type. It's mostly the calendar setup which has been so time-consuming lately. I'm loathe to get rid of it, as that's the primary way people are used to navigating this thing. Maybe I'll ditch it in the future, but for now -... (read more)
