You Are Beautiful: Year In Review
The good folks over at You Are Beautiful have updated their site, and created a Year in Review page. MAN those guys keep busy! Go check out all the cool stuff they’ve been up to.
One of the items you’ll see on that page references the You Are I Am show that took place at Open End, way back in July. Some of you may also remember that was the same day as Pierogi Fest, 2005. I swear… that day is in serious contention to make my Ten Best Days list for 2005.
For the You Are I Am show, I was on-site to take photographs for a sort of online spinoff project. Earlier this year, I met up with the folks at You Are Beautiful to discuss possible avenues for collaboration. Out of that talk, the idea of having people fill out nametag-like stickers and photographing them emerged.
This particular project fed directly in to my whole fascination with repetition and variation. I’ve babbled on at length about that on this blog, and finally got to realize it in an actual project.

In case you haven’t seen it before, click here to see the results of all the photos I took at the opening.
I’m genuinely proud of the work I did on this experiment, and I’m really, really happy with the results. It was an incredible experience to watch strangers come up and reveal a very small part of themselves to the camera. I hope you’re as taken with some of the photos as I am.
Getting to collaborate with the You Are Beautiful folks was awesome. I’m happy they posted an update, as I’ve been wanting to draw more attention to this particular Flash piece. I think it turned out really well, and the results are just way cool.
