The Lives They Left Behind: Found Suitcases at Willard Psychiatric Center

In 1995, Willard Psychiatric Center closed. In the attic of an abandoned building, hundreds of suitcases were discovered - all of them belonging to former patients who had been at Willard. And, as the presence of the suitcases suggests, never left.

These images and stories have haunted me since yesterday. While rich with history, The Lives They Left Behind is an incredibly sobering and sad project to see/read, so stand warned.

Wow, this is fascinating and sad... I'd love to have seen the actual exhibit.
