From Bergen to Oslo to Awesome: 7 Hour Train Ride Available as High Def Download

A few days back, I heard about a Norwegian broadcaster that aired all seven hours of a train ride, from Bergen to Oslo. When I first read about the footage, it sounded interesting... but I didn't think it would be all that engaging.

Last night, I just happened to see this ten minute teaser video, and BOY was I wrong. It's hypnotic, and now I want to turn this thing into a screensaver.

After the success of the program on TV, the broadcasting company then went ahead and made the raw footage available under a Creative Commons license. Interested in all 7+ hours of footage for your own use/remix? It's all neatly packaged up for you in a little 22 GB file.

FYI the portion in the video teaser shows the scenery near Finse (which is where they filmed the Hoth scenes, from The Empire Strikes Back).

Commentary

Ahhh, this post hits on three things I greatly love: trains, snow, and Scandinavia! That footage is pretty mesmerizing. Much to the chagrin of my family, if I could take a train everywhere (and planes nowhere) I would. It's all about sitting back, headphones in, and watching the landscape scroll across the windows... like the most relaxing movie ever.
